The first thing that needs to be done is to square off the axel. I used the bottom line for the cut, this puts the cut

 just below the round opening. I had a rag in the axel tube during the cuts. This was not that important in my

 case as the rearend was going to be completely rebuilt so I wasn't really worried about filings getting into the

bearings etc. I just wanted to keep the area as clean as I could. If you're not going to rebuild the rearend make sure

 you plug the axel up so that you don't getting anything in the rearend that will damage it.
